From first check
to first watt.

Good questions
are part of the job.

Plug-in solar is new in Britain. Here are the things homeowners are asking first.

Is plug-in solar legal in Great Britain?

Yes. Qualifying plug-in solar devices became legal to buy and use in England, Scotland and Wales from 27 August 2026. The exact model must meet the UK requirements; Northern Ireland currently has different rules.

Can any solar kit be plugged into a socket?

No. It needs to be a specific UK-compliant plug-in device listed on the relevant register. A familiar panel or inverter brand alone is not enough, which is why we check the complete model.

Will my socket and wiring be suitable?

The system must connect directly to a suitable socket, without an extension lead or adaptor. The circuit and protective devices also matter. We review these before confirming the installation.

Do I need permission?

You may need permission from a landlord, freeholder, building manager or local authority depending on the property and where the panels will be fixed. We flag this during the suitability check, but permission remains the property holder’s responsibility.

How much could I save?

It depends on panel position, shading and how much electricity you use while the system is generating. We avoid promising one headline figure for every home and will explain the assumptions that apply to yours.

Do the panels need to go on my roof?

No. Many plug-in systems suit a sunny garden, patio, garage, shed or low-level wall. We focus on accessible, secure mounting options rather than conventional high-level rooftop solar.

Who registers the system?

Registration is a legal requirement. When BrightPlug Energy supplies or fits your system, we include the registration step and keep the confirmation with your handover records.
